Emergency Response Committee

The purpose of the emergency response committee is:

  • Improve emergency response to hazardous material emergencies in the Tri-State area.

Committee Activities:

Past Projects:

  • Spearheaded the effort to use NOAA weather radios to alert Hamilton County residents to hazardous material emergencies in 2001.

  • Partnered with the Hamilton County General Health District and others for a Hamilton County Mercury Collection and Thermometer Exchange program in September 2002.

  • Sponsored a Terrorism Seminar for industry and emergency responders in May 2003.

  • Sponsored the 2004 Ohio Spill Prevention & Emergency Response Conference in September 2004.

Current Projects:

  • Working on a Greater Cincinnati Emergency Data Directory and Response Guidebook.

  • The committee(is researching data to be compiled into this emergency response resource tool, including telephone numbers and emergency contact information for first responders, public and private.  It will also include quick help guides for various types of responses involving hazardous materials, oils and other pollutants.   The target users include both public and private emergency responders and the chemical/oil industry for Hamilton and surrounding Ohio and Kentucky counties.   The ER Committee anticipates a Spring 2006 release for Volume 1. 

  • Working on the Greater Cincinnati Waterway Spill Containment Project.

  • The committee is in the early stages of leading a partnership effort including various agencies and businesses to review spill containment options and strategies for major releases along the areas’ larger waterways.  The first waterway containment review will focus on Mill Creek within the City of Cincinnati.  Michael Jana, Clean Harbors, is chairing the sub committee for this project.
